Zhu Jun, head of the delegation in Zhenjiang New District and Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Office at Jiangsu University, organized experts from the Science and Technology Deputy-Mayor Delegation, science and technology entrepreneurs, industry professors and corporate science and technology vice presidents. As the event’s organizer, he invited them to discuss with guests how to help enterprises solve technical problems and share experience in transferring and commercializing scientific and technological achievements.

Case studies:

Shen Yujie, a member of the Science and Technology Deputy-Mayor Delegation in Jiangdu District and Associate Professor at the Automotive Engineering Research Institute of Jiangsu University, shared a case from the perspective of delegation members’ work. The case described how Jiangsu University selected members of the delegation to continue serving industrial development among Jiangdu enterprises and jointly establish the Jiangdu Automotive Industry Research Institute.

Chen Zhongwei, a representative of Yangzhou’s science and technology entrepreneurs and General Manager of Jiangsu Xinya High Voltage Testing Equipment Co., Ltd., shared examples of how the company had, over the years, successfully partnered with Harbin Engineering University, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chongqing University and other universities on industry-university-research collaborations, with the Science and Technology Deputy-Mayor Delegation acting as a bridge.

Discussion:

Professor Liu Jun of the School of the Environment at Jiangsu University, a member of the fourth and fifth Science and Technology Deputy-Mayor Delegations in Jiangdu, discussed how delegation members could collect meaningful needs from enterprises. Fan Hongjie, General Manager of Jiangsu Ningda Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. and Executive Director of Yangzhou Jiejia Industrial Solid Waste Disposal Co., Ltd., described the services businesses most want from delegation members and shared his experience with industry-university-research collaboration. He said, “Innovation-driven development is the lifeline of a business. The core value of the Science and Technology Deputy-Mayor Delegation lies in precisely addressing businesses’ innovation needs, recommending the most suitable scientific and technological achievements, and connecting them with the most suitable experts and talent.”

Liang Baofu, an industry professor at Yangzhou Polytechnic Institute, Chief Engineer and Chief Expert at Yangzhou Yijiangxuan Garden and Historic Building Construction Co., Ltd., explained how industry professors could use their teaching opportunities at universities to train and recruit talent suited to businesses’ needs. Tao Tao, Deputy Dean of the School of Intelligent Manufacturing at Yangzhou Polytechnic Institute and corporate science and technology vice president at Yangli Group Co., Ltd., and Zhang Youchao, Lecturer at the School of Architectural Science and Engineering at Yangzhou University and corporate science and technology vice president at Jiangsu Huatai Road and Bridge Construction Group Co., Ltd., shared their experience from the perspectives of applying university scientific and technological achievements in businesses and conducting joint research with corporate science and technology vice presidents.
